Pluto was in Libra from 1971 to 1983

Pluto was in Libra from 1971 to 1983, which indicates that the collective corruption and decay which is ready to be brought to the surface, purged and eliminated will concern issues of equality, fairness, justice and trust. The Watergate affair of 1972 and 1973 in the US is one example. We could say that, until this time, it was collectively assumed that people in positions of power would behave in a generally ethical, legal and honourable way, and that the legal system could be more or less trusted to deliver justice. Now that Pluto has been through Libra, I think we are all much more aware of the corruption which exists under the surface in big organizations. But at the time, the Watergate affair was particularly shocking because on a collective level we still expected people in positions of authority and responsibility to behave ethically.

On a personal level, the burning ground for this generation will hinge around issues of trust and personal responsibility in relationships, which are likely to go through periods of breakdown and re-creation as those with Pluto in Libra struggle to find more honest, balanced and integrated ways to manage their relationships. This is very different indeed to the Neptune in Libra generation born between 1942 and 1956. This was a generation whose collective dream and longing was for peace, love and harmony. This was the hippy generation which idealized relationships and believed, in the immortal words of John Lennon, that 'All you need is love.'

1971-1984 (Generation X)

Pluto in Libra may be a bit compulsive. They want to understand the world around them, but they may act before thinking. They really want to appear as if they

are in control. They work very diligently at making all of their relationships work. This is their way of transforming themselves and others. Some may be unconventional, while others are very traditional in how they view these relationships.

Libra Pluto loves art and they respond best to the art that makes a strong impression on the viewer. Fairness and justice is very important to them, and they may help reform laws to make things more equitable. They are fairly diplomatic, but may get very angry when they see injustice. Ultimately they wish to create harmony. Fighting and discord cause them pain. They are able to dive right in to a situation, however and wade through all the unpleasantness to create that peace.

Pluto in Libra has the gift of compromise. They can find a middle ground in almost any issue. That issue where there is no middle ground and one side will definitely lose is the hardest situation for Libra Pluto to deal with. They may become immobilized and do nothing.

Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore and Monica Lewinsky all have the Libra Pluto Sign.

Pluto in Libra Pluto in Libra: gave us a generation (1972 to 1984) that will be obsessed with art. When they grow older and move into positions of power, look for an increase in the art market. They will also be obsessed with fairness, justice, and partnership. Look for the institution of marriage to make a brief comeback, and for a push to reform the legal codes.

PLUTO IN LIBRA
(1971/72-1983/84)

Libra is the sign of peace and harmony, and early in Pluto's journey through Libra the agonizing war in Vietnam finally came to an end. On a larger scale, two enormous hostile world powers, the United States and the People's Republic of China, moved toward peace and a new rapprochement in their relationship. Pluto-in-Libra also indicates a deep concern for law and balancing injustice. The era of Watergate, with its shocking revelations of corruption, ended by bringing new order to government and restoring the balance of powers between the executive branch and Congress. A consequence was the adoption of the Freedom of Information Act. Libra emphasizes egalitarianism and equality, and Pluto's transit saw the passage of equal opportunity laws, support for the Equal Rights Amendment, and greater equality for homosexuals. Libra also signifies a love for luxury, and the early 1980's ushered in a period of opulence and ostentation. When Pluto is in Libra, the planet's personal influence promotes a deep need to seek harmony and cooperation. Its negative side brings unforeseen problems and disruption in close relationships.
